Introduction
CPSC1520 Details
CPSC1520 is a 90 hour 4.5 credit course. Each week will consist of approximately 4 hours of instruction through lecture and examples and 2 hours of guided formative exercise work.
The course is designed to be a quick-start for web designers who are interested in basic front-end scripting, with a later emphasis on front-end application development. The course will progress quickly through the early material, making use of many examples to help immerse the student in the content while at the same time showing how the material is relevant to the real world.
Expectations
This is not a course to be taken lightly. Students with no prior programming experience can expect to spend up to 8 hours per week (for the first 5-6 weeks in the course) of homework time studying the material. It is expected that students will put in the effort if they intend to do well in this course.
While the material presented will cover all of what students will be tested on, it may still be necessary for students to perform their own research on topics that they find difficult to understand. In this course about web technologies, students should not be afraid to go online to learn and explore how the technology is put into action.
Lastly, class time is at a premium. Use it wisely or you may find yourself quickly falling behind. Class time that is spent working on other courses, playing online games, socializing, etc. will be seen as a gross misuse of resources and may result in privileges being lost.
